Today's subject will be Public schools and taxes
I cannot say that all conservatives are Christian that would be ambiguous , but the fact that people like Sarah Palin have been quoted to say "this is god's nation" puts it into view
I found out that my girlfriend had choir in her high school in a small city on the southern part of our state. in the weeks earlier I had attended a 5th of July parade for her county and was impressed with how political it had all become and the peoples reaction to it, every single person running for some political office was there and handing out flyers, and almost everyone that was around me was telling them to lower taxes, when the fire trucks rolled through the city the people said "we could really use some new equipment" I turned to the woman telling me this and said to her "a few minutes ago you asked to lower taxes, but you want new equipment? what do you think pays for that stuff?"
which leads me to my next point, public schools... I found out a few days ago that our district is laying off around 500 teachers jobs, which is sad. and it's because the budgets keep getting cut cause everyone's afraid to raise taxes in fear of losing their position in the government, now I should say that I am on the low end of the economic curve when it comes to income but I would still rather see them raise taxes and pay for useful programs like education then budget cuts and layoffs.
But how come I find out that in the small town (5000 people) where this school exists that tax payers are paying for choir, if you don't quite understand yet let me explain.. the separation of church and state in lay mans terms means "if its paid for with taxes it cannot have religion in it" it's as simple as that, that's why churches and private religious schools are Tax exempt, I asked her what kind of songs they would sing and she would say that they were mainly Christian songs, now I am sure if I talk to almost everyone in this town they would say "who cares we are Christian" but no way would this ever fly in the big city to the north, if it happened in my town every atheist, Muslim, Jew would come out and say "that's not fair I don't want my child learning "silent night", now This is obviously an elective course, which means no one is being forced to take it however the books, teachers salary and rent are all paid for by tax payers who may not be Christian, it's simply not fair to every other religion, I understand America is mainly "Jesus followers" but the "Truth" is not democratic right and wrong have nothing to do with popularity hundreds of years ago everyone "knew" the earth was the center of the universe" makes sense right god created it should be right smack dab in the middle and everything in the sky circles around it and that's what everyone thought and everyone was wrong.
I think that public schools are about education not religion and if you don't like that send your kid to a private Christian school, that's what my parents did and they paid allot of money for me not to learn anything about evolution biology or true history, thank god (pun intended) for my public high school for showing me these
